Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) is the new name for the Food Stamp Program in North Carolina. FNS benefits help individuals and families with little or no income buy food. FNS benefits come on a plastic “Electronic Benefits Transfer” (EBT) card that can be used at most grocery stores and some farmers’ markets. The EBT card is like a credit or debit card and is now used instead of paper food stamps. FNS benefits are put onto the EBT card each month. The card is swiped at the grocery store checkout.
